RC was Island-born, Island-raised, though in the first instance the Island was Newfoundland. No bother, he knows his cod tongue as well as his cafe latte. A writer and photojournalist by trade, RC is a regular contributor to a diverse cross-section of publications from excellent B.C.-based foodie resource Epicure And Travel (EAT) Magazine to the leader of a wholly different industry, Triathlete Magazine (the basis of one feeds the other – you decided which is which). Definition of happiness: port and a post-dinner cheese plate. Or a Guinness and a smile, it all depends on the context.

UB (a pseudonym to protect the innocent) was fortunate to grow up eating local organic livestock and produce–although as she was living on a farm just outside a town of 700 on the prairies “farm food” wasn’t exactly acknowledged as such. She transplanted to Victoria in 2000 after living and taste-testing her way through locales as diverse as Zimbabwe and St. Lucia (try the conch!). Having put down roots, she’s become a social convener, gently herding friends from gallery nights to restaurants to any place fine footwear is likely to be available. UB is an ENTP who doesn’t believe in categorization.
